We get it, it can be difficult to make friends as an adult, especially if you’re new to the city. We even stumbled upon a Reddit thread about it, so hey friends, we’re here to help. 👋

🫂 Go to community events

Our events calendar is there to help you find opportunities to get out in the city + meet new people — there’s probably more going on than you think.

Plus, IndyHub is a networking organization for young professionals + The Porch Live Indianapolis hosts weekly faith-based gatherings for young adults — and it’s re-launching Thursdays (starting today) at 7:30 p.m.

🎨 Find a hobby

One of the best ways to make friends is to surround yourself with people who have similar interests. Whether that be an artistic hobby like painting, photography, or any other craft — there are classes you can join.

If you’re into fitness, join a gym or workout club. Finding a workout partner is also a great way to hold each other accountable. November Project is a workout club that meets downtown on Wednesday and Friday mornings — “just show up.”

If you like to read, join a book club. Creative Mornings is hosting a virtual book club meetup on Thurs., Feb. 10 to discuss local author Ashley C. Ford’s debut novel.

📲 Go mobile

We’re in the age of social media, so take advantage of it + connect with people who you wouldn’t meet otherwise. PLUG LLC is a local tech startup that aims to connect people in its community. Download the app and find people within a 50-mile radius.

There’s a Bumble BFF Indy Facebook group you can join or check out Meetup Indianapolis online. There’s also an Indy Social Discord channel that organizes meetups.

Pro tip: For any of this to work, you most likely will need to step out of your comfort zone, but consider us your first new friends.
