It’s summer time, which calls for more time spent outdoors. Grab some popcorn, a drink, and maybe some bug spray because we’re taking the big screen outside. Here's a list of places to enjoy a flick under the stars.

Downtown
Visit this downtown landmark and join the Indiana War Memorials Foundation for Thursdays on the Mall. On Thurs., July 7 catch “Rocky IV” and see “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” on Thurs., Aug. 4. Each showing starts at dusk. There will also be food trucks, beer from Sun King Brewing, popcorn, and games, from 7-11 p.m.
Take me out to the ballgame — err, movie. For the third year in a row, the home of the Indianapolis Indians is hosting Flicks at the Vic for a trio of movies, starting with “Jurassic Park” on Sat., July 16. Then catch “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” on Thurs., July 28 and “Encanto” on Sat., Oct. 1. Pro tip: Advance ticket buyers receive $2 off each ticket when purchasing at least one week ahead of each movie showing.

A watch in the park
Visit MacAllister Amphitheater at Garfield Park for Movies at the Mac at 9 p.m. on Fri., July 8 to see “Soul” and Fri., July 29 to see “Space Jam” (1996).
The Summer Nights Film Series is back at Newfields on Fridays and select Saturdays in June, July, and August. All you need is a chair or blanket, and guests are welcome to pack their own picnic. The museum will show 15 films from black + white classics to modern blockbusters. See the full lineup.
At the drive-in
Put it in park. Tibbs Drive-In Theatre has been around since 1967 and is Indy’s only drive-in movie theater. This nostalgic spot is open Thursday-Monday during the summer. Bring the whole family (even the pups) for current Hollywood releases + the occasional classic. |
Share this story with your movie date, your fellow movie buffs, and anyone else looking to get out this summer. |

Meet laundry’s new power couple. | Photo provided by Dirty Labs |
Here’s the dirt. Traditional laundry detergents are packed with harmful chemicals (think: dyes, sulfates + even microplastics) that are harmful to humans and the environment. That’s why Dirty Labs is changing the game with their nature-inspired, scientifically-driven detergent, which is: - Non-toxic and free from carcinogens and hormone-disrupting chemicals
- Biodegradable, and comes in eco-friendly packaging
-
Hyper-efficient, thanks to Dirty Labs’ enzyme-driven cleaning technology
Plus, even Vogue agrees: it smells amazing.* |

Development -
The Noblesville City Council heard proposals for two separate residential real estate developments that would create ~130 new residences in the city — 75 single-family homes at Pebble Brook Crossing + 50 two-story townhomes that would provide an affordable housing option at 1255 S. 16th St. The developments could be approved by the council this month. 🏘️ (IBJ)

It’s the end of an era. The Johnson County Sales Pavilion — which brought farmers from across the state since 1955 — is closing after 65 years. The pavilion ~four miles south of Franklin held its final animal sale last week + will likely be transformed into a heating/cooling, electrical, and plumbing business. 🐐 (Daily Journal)

Just like the price of gas, the rates to park at Circle Centre Mall garages are increasing. Starting Fri., July 1, the Red (Maryland Street) + Blue (W. Georgia Street) garages will increase from $3 to $7/hour for the first two hours of parking. Rates in the World of Wonders Garage will increase from $3 to $10. 🅿️ (IndyStar)

Editor's pick: You would think parking in the garages downtown is easier but the rates can be crazy, especially when there are events in town. I spend a lot of time downtown so I've become a pro at street parking. I highly recommend getting the ParkMobile app on your phone so you can pay the meter contactless + on the go. Pro tip: Street parking is free on Sundays. 🅿️
