Pull out your headphones, because we’re sharing 2 new Indy podcasts highlighting the city + its residents. 🎧 |

|
Circle City Chatter
Hosted by Shay McCoy of @CityofShay + Andrea Jones, a wedding planner and boutique owner, these two local ladies are all about connecting Indy to Indy through telling stories of the small businesses you know and love.
Recent episodes: -
Martha Latta: Stomping Ground | To help get you in the spring spirit, this quaint shop is home to house plants, floral arrangements, t-shirts, local gifts, and more. Hear about her journey to becoming a house store for house plants in Windsor Park, and the importance of community to her and her business.
-
Dan and Jamie Fahrner: Hi & Mighty | Listen in high spirits as Dan and Jamie chat about their brand new distillery Hi & Mighty, which is opening soon at the state fairgrounds. Learn all about this distilling duo and the family values they bring to their business, the “community over competition” they've received from others in the local industry, and how their brand has developed pre-launch.

Voices of Indy
Hosted by local singer + songwriter Josh Gillespie, Voices of Indy is dedicated to giving you the opportunity to know Indianapolis musically, artistically, and theatrically. Recent episodes: -
Bobby Donnelly | Hear from this local solo musician who is also part of the band Huckleberry Funk. Bobby's music doesn't necessarily fit a genre, but definitely pulls from influences such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, and the Eagles. This podcast episode is loose, fun, and sometimes a little obscene.
-
Kate Oberreich | Hear from this Indianapolis-based artist working in multiple mediums including water media, cyanotype, embroidery, and collage. Kate's work often explores themes + narratives associated with the concept of finding home and community, both literally and figuratively.
All of this podcast talk got us thinking — what if we had an INDYtoday podcast? Would you listen to it? Let us know. |

Development -
Indianapolis is set to receive $5 million through the Next Level Trail grant program to help construct a trail along the Nickel Plate rail corridor between 42nd + 96th streets. Construction could begin as early as 2023 and be completed by the end of 2024 with an estimated cost at more than $12 million. 🚧 (IBJ)

In less than two weeks, a new community recreation center will open at the site of the former Greenwood Middle School fieldhouse. The city took on the $9 million redevelopment project to give the property a new life — with a 65,000 sqft facility complete with an indoor running + walking track, batting cages, multi-purpose turf fields + gymnasiums. 👟 (Daily Journal)
Sports -
Over the weekend, a statue of "The Father of the Final Four" + icon of the NCAA Tom Jernstedt was unveiled near the statue of John Wooden on Georgia Street downtown. Tom was also the creator of the NCAA tournament brackets that have become annual, beloved competitions. There was a celebration of his life at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. 🏀 (IndyStar)
Hoosier -
The Circle City Cloggers will be back for another year of toe-tappin' entertainment at the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. The local dance group has become a staple as one of the first entertainers the 13.1-mile race ever had. The race will be held on Sat., May 7. 👞 (WTHR)
Kids -
For its second year, the Indiana DNR will host a Teddy Bear Camp for children ages 5-12 who love stuffed animals. Indy’s only drive-in theater is open for the season. The former owner of Tibbs Drive-In passed it down to longtime employee Marcella Snyder — who plans to revamp both the snack bar building + its menu (look for new vegetarian options soon) and open the place to various non-movie activities, like concerts. 🎥 (Indianapolis Monthly)
Plan Ahead -

Last week, we invited you — our readers — to participate in an Earth Day-inspired campaign, showcasing how you shopped locally + sustainably. 🌎
Nothing’s more green or sustainable than plants, mulch + a clean pathway. In celebration of Earth Day, Mass Ave. hosted a spring clean-up day to keep downtown Indy looking beautiful.
Missed this volunteer opportunity? You can join the Old Northside for its spring clean-up this Sat., April 30 to help beautify the historic neighborhood. 🌳

Editor's pick: To close out Earth week, yesterday I practiced sustainability by shopping secondhand. One way to participate in #BuyLocalBuyGreenINDY year-round (not just for Earth Day) is by shopping local, thrifted, and secondhand clothing rather than shopping fast fashion. Pro tip: Instead of throwing away unwanted clothes, donate them to Dress for Success or Wheeler Mission. 👕
