Indiana Fashion Week is rolling out the red carpet in six days, with runway shows, youth opportunities + a full schedule of events. We’re a-dressing everything you need to know about the week of Mon., July 25-Sat., July 30 in today’s newsletter.

|
What is it?
It’s now a convention-style gathering that brings together hundreds of style enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and professionals from all over Indiana, but it started with only 30 participants, six audience members + a budget of $250. Indiana Fashion Week was created in 2019 by Denisha Ferguson — CEO of Indiana Fashion Foundation. It’s quickly grown into an annual event that provides education and exhibit opportunities to grow the state’s fashion industry.
The week was featured in Forbes last year when Council of Fashion Designers of America CEO + Hoosier Steven Kolb discussed Indy’s potential as the next big fashion capital. He also talked about the youth program as a key component of the week. During the Youth Designer Challenge, kids ages 11-17 will have $30 and 45 minutes to find materials at a Salvation Army to transform into their own designs. It’s a two-day event that culminates in a finale show on Saturday.

Who are the designers? There are several notable designers participating this year, including wife + husband maker duo WaZeil & UaZit of WAZUAZ by STALPH. Here’s what they had to say about the collection they're showcasing next week: “Our mission as designers is to offer Hoosiers a peek inside the extraordinary world of plant-based, botanically dyed apparel. We create apparel using fibers and materials from the earth, so they can ultimately be returned to the earth without harm.” Don’t be surprised if you see hole-punched dried red onion skins as part of a polka dot design on their fabrics and other unprecedented ways of using dye techniques.
Plus, Heirloom Textile creator Peggy Latta — who has decades of experience in bridal + couture home decor experience — will also display work from her textile hARvesT label. Not only does she have her restyle label, she also is known for making 11” replicas of gowns and have been commissioned by clients all over the world.

DYK that one of the top selling kitchen products from this year’s Amazon Prime Day was the Ultrean Air Fryer? Reviews mention chicken wings, pork chops, and chicken nuggets (yum). Bonus: It’s still on sale.*
